How to Record and Manage Daily Work Reports with Notion

This question comes from a reader of the Notion course. It has been organized and shared here. If you encounter similar issues while using Notion, feel free to leave a comment.

Reader's Question

Hi, I have this need: I need to record a daily work log. Currently, I create a document for each month, write the date first, and then record the day's work below it for easy reference later, such as when writing performance reviews. Daily work includes weekly meetings, project-specific discussions, and so on. For example, on January 1st, 14th, and 29th, and on February 10th and 28th, I discussed content related to Project A. How can I quickly summarize all the content for a specific period and a specific project, while still being able to look up work content by month or date?

Solution 1: Summarize with Notion AI

The simplest approach is to use Notion AI to ask questions about a specific page (or database) by referencing it with the @ symbol (remember to add a space before @), and let AI summarize for you.

Summarize all records related to "Project A" in the @XXX page

However, the issue with AI is that its summary may have omissions. It's generally used as a reference or as a form of fuzzy search.

Solution 2: Record Daily in a Database

If all daily reports for a month are written on the same page, Notion currently cannot fulfill the need to "extract specific content," because it's plain text content and cannot be filtered or sorted like a database.

Database filtering works on "pages within the database," so this requires you to use a database for recording from the start, with each page containing only one day's daily report.

For example:

Then use the database's filter feature to filter specific fields:

Database filter and sort

The detailed project content is then recorded inside the opened daily report page:

Daily report page content

Solution 3: Link a Project Database to Daily Reports

You can create a separate database for recording "projects," then relate projects to "that day's daily report." For example:

Project linked to daily report

This way, you can conveniently view a specific project in one place, and also see which daily reports mentioned that project.
